La Tanik

Lasterhaft

About the show

Carmela, 1.56 m tall, 140 HP (!), is a wild dancer, lovable acrobat and virtuoso of the hula hoop who can split apples with a single swing of her hips.
Is it circus, is it theatre?
One thing is certain:
it is all real. Clichés simply get crushed under her wheels ;
those about travelling folk, and those about real men and powerful machines.

About the Company

Carmen La Tanik

Carmen La Tanik  is a street show artist and street theatre maker. Under the name La Tanik she has been performing since 2012 at engagements throughout Germany and internationally. The circus artist and cultural/social pedagogue from Franconia, whose main subject is hula hoop, lived, learned and studied, among other places, at the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN) in the Netherlands and the circus school centro de artes urbanas (CAU) in Spain. She has been living on wheels for over 20 years.

She tours, moves and performs with her purple 7.5 t living truck, complete with its truck stage, and her shows “Carmela!” and “Salon Desastre”. In these she combines object manipulation, dance, acrobatics, hula hoop, equilibristics, language and comedy to create a unique performance. Her shows are characterised by interaction with the audience. Humour, as well as feminism, are core elements in her artistic work.

She translates her personal experiences as a travelling artist and woman travelling alone into acrobatics and shares them with her audience with a lot of humour. In doing so, she draws on countless mishaps, encounters and observations she has experienced on her travels.
